Dear fans aka friends'n'family,
Thanks for your patience while I sort myself out artistically. As soon as I have some new material to offer up, I will post it, pitch problems and all. To those of you precious few who have asked about new stuff, please hold your horses. And while you're at it, why not enjoy some "old school" material that started this whole habit/hobby...
These are my three original songs currently available online. Each was recorded in one take (per track) on a Saturday in June when I was in a hurry to record to the TASCAM and take the songs over to my brother's place. To call them works in progress would be an understatement. Stay tuned for upcoming additions to this blog!
My adaptation of the Gipsy Kings' "La Montaña". The original version of this song has such an archaic soul-pounding depth to it. If you're familiar with the original, then try to forget it when you hear my stripped down adaptation. That's me playing guitars on two tracks and singing on the other track. This song has not gone through the engineering process. For now, I'll keep it raw and bare.
Here is my interpretation of Sting's song "Fragile" (from Nothing Like the Sun, 1987) and its Portuguese-language counterpart "Fragil" (Nada como el sol, 1988). I have actually been familiar with the Portuguese version of the song for much longer than the English version. Kudos to Sting for going multilingual in the late 1980's and releasing material for his fans in Latin America (and on the Iberian peninsula, I suppose).
That is me on vocals and nylon string guitar. David, my brother and sound engineer, did everything else. This is the fruit of our first musical collaboration. Bear with us/me.
These are five of the songs I recorded on my brother's TASCAM Portastudio 414, a four-track cassette tape recorder that's about 15 years old. It's very old school, but it's all that I have ever known since I started recording myself two months ago. We (he) transferred the tape mixes to MP3 files on the day my air conditioner broke a couple of weeks ago. Talk about patience!
