Harvey Milk and Tuxedomoon
I was reading about a new Gus Van Sant movie coming out called "Harvey Milk" (or maybe it is just going to be called "Milk") where Sean Penn plays the title character (and James Franco plays his partner), who was the first openly gay person elected to office in America (or the world or something like that). Anyway, I read a long Wikipedia article about Harvey Milk and how he was killed by Dan White (who will be played by Josh Brolin) in 1978 (he also shot San Francisco Mayor George Moscone at the same time), and how a lot of people thought Dan White's sentence was too soft.
There was a song written about it called "(Special Treatment For The) Family Man" by a new wave group called Tuxedomoon in 1979.
I just had to download a song from 1979 that was classified as "new wave/electronic" by a Wikipedia article's author. Ha!
Here is the song ...
Tuxedomoon - "(Special Treatment For The) Family Man"
Listening to this song made me think of a song from the soundtrack of "Carrie". It's the music they play when she is killing everyone in the gym. It is basically just the sound of white noise, but it reminds of the background of the song above.
Pino Donaggio - "School In Flames" (from the movie, Carrie)
Another good song from the soundtrack is "Bucket of Blood". Pino Donaggio (who composed the score for Carrie) and Brian De Palma (who directed Carrie) both admired Bernard Herrmann, the composer who did the music for a lot of Alfred Hitchcock films and a couple of Brian De Palma films, such as "Taxi Driver". You can sometimes hear Herrmann's influences during the movie.

The above photo came from Kisscut.net, which has tons of great DVD screen caps (captures) from horror movies (and other movies, too, I think).
The next song is a little cheesy, but it plays during the most innocent part of the movie, where Tommy and Carrie are dancing and the camera creates a sort of swirling affect. The singer's name is Katie Irving.
Pino Donaggio - "I Never Dreamed Someone Like You Could Love Someone Like Me" (from Carrie)
OK, that's all the music I got for right now. There are some other good songs on the Carrie soundtrack, but you might as well just watch the movie to appreciate them all. Here is a photo I took at the 80th annual Austin Kite Festival over a week ago ...
I thought it was cool how the sky looked in the background. It was very cloudy that day, but luckily it did not rain or lightning (well, not enough to keep people away from Zilker Park).
