That's one of the many songs I think of when it actually rains in Austin. Another good one is "Showdown" by Electric Light Orchestra. Anyway, it rained this morning in Austin, and I think it is still raining right now. It's so rare to see rain now that I thought I would take a video of it with my little Canon SD750 digital camera. There's nothing special about the video, but it is the best feeling in the world to actually see rain and lightning and hear thunder. Austin is in a drought right now so this rain is very much welcomed.
I really like Tori Amos's new CD, Abnormally Attracted To Sin. A song that stands out on the album for me is "Police Me". I decided to attempt to make a cool video for the song (not my best attempt). Here it is ...
All of the images are from the CD booklet that came with the CD. I got the deluxe version of the CD so I got a DVD with a bunch of "visualettes" that go with the songs. There is actually a real video for "Police Me", but I still had to make my own.
M.I.A. posted some photos on her MySpace blog of her and Oprah at the TIME 100 celebration. Her boyfriend, Benjamin Bronfman (aka Ben Brewer), was at the party with her.
M.I.A. was nominated for a BET Best New Artist award. M.I.A. has been around since 2004-2005 so it's kind of weird to have her nominated as a best new artist, but it's still nice.
Here is the link to the nominees.
I read an article on CNET about great ways to track traffic to your website, and my new favorite traffic-tracking site is Histats.com. It's totally free, and it's very easy to navigate. Today the website's Geolocation feature told me that people from the U.S., UK, Colombia, Mexico, Australia, and Slovenia are visiting this VOX blog. I think that is awesome. I've always loved the idea of somehow communicating with people around the world, even though I don't exactly have the money to travel around the world right now. It makes me feel a little bit more international. You can place the counter in the lower right part of the page that has the options "Edit" and "Hide".
Xmarks (formerly "Foxmarks) is a tool that you can add on to Mozilla's Firefox browser that stores all of your bookmarks. It will prompt you to "sync" everytime you add a new bookmark. I love this tool because I can go to any computer, download the Xmarks tool and have access to all of my bookmarks.
Allyson on America's Next Top Model did not win tonight. She was beaten by Teyona. Both of them were very good, but I thought Allyson had such a unique look that would look great for high fashion photos. I hope she gets a good modeling contract anyway so she can travel the world and hone her craft.
Here is a remix of M.I.A.'s "Pull Up The People" (from the album, Arular) called the Jordan Aveline Blair Remix ...
Here is a remix called New M.I.A. Song (Death to the Throne Remix) that has been out for a while, but it is really just a remix of Bucky Done Gun so I am going to call it Bucky Done Gun (Death to the Throne remix) ...
Tori Amos recently did a show at La Zona Rosa in Austin, TX, for her upcoming album, Abnormally Attracted To Sin. Here is a video that Trent from Pink is the New Blog recorded. He posted it on his blog here.
Tori is performing a new song called "Mary Jane" in this video ...
M.I.A. is briefly mentioned in the February 23, 2009 issue of TIME magazine ...
The scanned image on the right is an Oscar ballot filled out by TIME's film critic, Richard Corliss. I wanted to include it because Slumdog Millionaire is checked off several times on the ballot. However, Peter Gabriel's song from WALL-E is beating out M.I.A. and A R Rahman's song, "O ... Saya", from Slumdog Millionaire. I hope his prediction is incorrect, even though I do like the Peter Gabriel song, and I loved the movie, WALL-E.
Lily Allen has a new album, new single, and new look. I don't know a ton about her, but the lyrics of her new song, "The Fear", are pretty good. The album is called "It's Not Me, It's You", which is a very clever title.
Here is the video for the song on YouTube ...
You can also watch the video here ...
Here is a YouTube video of the Stonebridge remix of The Fear ...
Here are some different versions of the song ...
In other news, I work at a credit union so I get to keep up with all of the political stuff that goes on with credit unions. There is a house bill and a senate bill that will help credit unions if they get passed. The bills discuss how retailers do not do enough to prevent customers' information from being stolen. Once there is a data security breach, financial institutions have to spend tons of money and time to cancel their members' cards and issue them new ones. These bills will help put that responsibility on the shoulders of retailers, thus causing them to take the security of their customers' information more seriously. You can find out more information on Senate Bill 345 and House Bill 327 here ...

The above link will take you to TCUL, Texas Credit Union League, which will help you send an email to your local congressman about your support for the bill. If you don't live in Texas, I am sure there are sites for credit union leagues in other states out there. Google it!
