OK, so I post a lot of pop and electronica on here, but I really love classical music. I just don't really jam to it my car that much(well, I do put instrumentals from movies on mix CDs that I burn so I guess I do jam to some classical music while driving).
We'll start off with "Im Abendrot" from the soundtrack to David Lynch's Wild at Heart, one of my all-time favorite movies. I really, really love this movie. Anyway, an excerpt from Richard Strauss' "Im Abendrot" plays at the beginning of Wild at Heat after a match is lit and the title words of the movie come flying at you. It's one of the most beautiful openings of a movie ever, both visually and sonically.
Here is video of the opening ...
And here is just the song(the excerpt, that is) ...
Here is the full version of Richard Strauss' "Im Abendrot" sung by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf ...
The next song is George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. I had this record(the conductor is Leonard Bernstein) when I was really young, and I would play it a lot.
Another song I really like is Hungarian Rhapsody #2 by Franz Liszt. This song is used very well in a Looney Tunes cartoon("Rhapsody in Rivets"), but when I listen to it, I think of something else entirely. Here is the cartoon ...
And here is the song, of course ...
Bela Bartok is another favorite of mine. His music is featured in The Shining, and Tori Amos is one of his fans(I think!). His music makes me think of thrillers and horror movies. Here are two of his songs that I like ...
Johann Strauss Jr.'s waltzes are very well known. One of his waltzes is featured in a key scene in The Fisher King, but I can't remember which one. Here are three that I really like ...
This next song is very relaxing. It is "The Swan" by Caille Saint-Saens.
I like Mozart like everyone else in the world. Here are a couple of my favorite Mozart songs ...
Here is Mozart's "Turkish March" ...
In the 80s movie, Electric Dreams, Virginia Madsen's character plays the cello, and her favorite song to play on it seems to be the following song by Bach ...
Jodie Foster starred in the very creepy movie, The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane, in 1976. I think Chopin is played throughout most of the movie, and this next song is definitely played in a crucial scene in the movie ...
OK, that is all I got for now. There are some other songs that I am leaving out of this list, I'm sure, but I need to post this already.
