This version of "Shells" has M.I.A.'s vocals slowed down, but the beat is still fast.
Here is a new song by Bjork called "Nattura". The video is a compilation of a lot of Bjork's videos, and I think it came out pretty cool ...
I wanted to set the destruction of the Death Star from "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" to the song, "Pluto", by Bjork, and this is how it came out ...
It is way too hot in Austin so I thought I would post some songs that either mention "rain" in their lyrics or sound like water/rain. I may have posted some of these before. Here is the current forecast for Austin, TX ...
Here is a song that I could play over and over again if I had to. It has a sort of submarine sound to it ...
This next song actually mentions "rain" ...
"It's raining all over the world" (yeah, right) ...
This song has always sounded kind of underwater to me ...
This last song takes place when a storm is coming in Bram Stoker's Dracula ...
Also, here is a video from last summer in Austin, when it rained so much that they had to open up the floodgates at Mansfield Dam.
I started doing my treadmill again to attempt to get back into shape, and I listen to my iPod while I do it. Well, I was trying to find new music to listen to (besides Madonna and Prodigy) while I "jogged" on the treadmill, and I decided to try out Deee-Lite's early 90s album "Infinity Within". I actually had the cassette tape of this album when I was in high school, and I would jog/walk to it around my neighborhood. I've always thought the production on the album is superb. Here are my favorite songs from the album (along with other songs that are in my head) ...
Deee-Lite - I.F.O. (Identified Flying Object)
Deee-Lite - Runaway
Deee-Lite - Heart Be Still
I actually got geeky and tried making a video for this song. I thought this song would go well with all of the election stuff going on right so here is my Vote Baby Vote video featuring images of Barack Obama (I think he should be the next president) ...
This next song, "Two Clouds Above Nine", is not my favorite song, but it does have the great line, "Damn that's my jam", which is sung numerous times during the song.
Deee-Lite - Two Clouds Above Nine
Deee-Lite - Electric Shock
Deee-Lite - I Had a Dream I Was Falling Through a Hole in the Ozone Layer
Bjork - The Modern Things ...
Deee-Lite - Music Selector is the Soul Reflector
Bjork - Desired Constellation
P Diddy featuring Keyshia Cole - Last Night
and the video ...
OK, time to go to bed.
Years and years ago, I used a cassette player to record songs, play songs, etc. Either the player or the cassette would mess up sometimes and cause the entire song to play backwards. Well, sometimes this error produced some cool results. Here are two of my favorite backwards songs ...
Electric Light Orchestra and Olivia Newton-John - Udanax
The cool thing about playing "Xanadu" backwards is that the song has more of a desperate, urgent feel to it, like some catastrophe is about to happen (maybe I am the only that hears this). Also the phrase, "Now we are here" which is sung by the backup singer (is that ELO's Jeff Lynne or members of ELO?) becomes "Now you are here". That little trick makes sense since ELO always played around with secret messages on a song played backwards.
Tori Amos - eeeii
Tori Amos' "iieee" is probably one of my favorite songs ever. When played backwards, the "iiiiiieeeeeeee" parts sound really cool and kind of creepy like something the faux witches in The Crucible would have sung in the woods. ;)
and here are some others I was playing around with just for fun ...
BT and Tori Amos - Blue Skies (backwards)
There's nothing special about this song played backwards. I just thought it sounded cool. Playing vocals backwards can make the emotion in the singer's voice sound a little more intense for some reason.
Bjork - Earth Intruders (backwards)
Again, nothing too special about this song being played backwards. I just wanted to see what it sounded like. The end of this song sounds like Bjork is standing on a boat about to leave the dock. That part of the song begins when played backwards.
Goldfrapp - Clowns (backwards)
I just wanted to see what this would sound like backwards.
Goldfrapp - Eat Yourself (backwards)
Same as above.
Goldfrapp - El Train (T. Raumschmiere Remix ... and backwards)
This remix contained vocals from "Train" played backwards already so when you play the remix backwards, you hear those vocals played correctly. You'll see what I mean.
I love M.I.A.'s song, 20 Dollar, and I wanted to hear what the background sound that's repeated throughout the song would sound like backwards.
OK, that's all I got for this strange and unnecessary post.
I have listened to Bjork's Volta more lately, and I love this song, Vertebrae by Vertebrae. What I love about it is how it sounds like the soundtrack to an Alfred Hitchcock movie (that Bernard Herrmann would compose, of course). I also love it when Bjork goes "Awww uh awwww awwww". Listen to the song and you will see what I am talking about.
I was listening to Bjork's Vespertine album this morning as I got ready for work. I wanted to listen to something otherworldly sounding. When I listen to Vespertine, I always feel like I need to be putting together a puzzle made of sharp objects in a haunted house in Antartica. I think that will make more sense if you listen to the album. My favorite song on the album, which I used to think was "Hidden Place"(maybe because the video is so great), is "Pagan Poetry". The song just has such a great electronic vibe, yet it is full of personality.
Bjork - Pagan Poetry
Here is the video again just in case ...
I have been listening to "Possibly Maybe" by Bjork a lot lately. I have an iTune playlist that I listen to while I get ready in the morning or drive in my car. It has Bjork, Tarkan, M.I.A., Muse, and some of John Carpenter's Halloween soundtrack on it. I love the part on "Possibly Maybe" where she sings "since we broke up, I'm using lipstick again. I suck my tongue in remembrance of you." Those lyrics are great.
Bjork - Possibly Maybe (from Post)
Bjork - Possibly Maybe (LFO Remix ... and there are two groups called "LFO" ... one is cool and does electronic music and the other one did that lame, lame song about girls wearing Abercrombie and Fitch or some crap like that) from Telegram
I also like to upload the video, in case it gets deleted off of YouTube one day ...
M.I.A. - Talk About Moi (clip of song, titled wrong) ...
M.I.A. - 20 Dollar (video of live performance) ...
And I uploaded it, just to be safe ...
Here are more random songs that I thought about today. Many of these come from listening to elevator music at my job.
I was shopping for my trip to London over a week ago, and I heard a remix of Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right". I had also heard the song on one of those commercials for a compilation of pop songs. I thought the song sounded pretty cool. While in London, my friends and I heard "Maneater", I think, and they kept on talking about how it was a ripoff of the Hall &
