This is an old remix of Kanye West's Gold Digger/ Ray Charles' I Got A Woman by Diplo, but I just found it recently and had to share it since it is a lot of fun.
I started a Piracy Funds Terrorism, vol. 1, playlist on YouTube a while back (it actually survived a couple of usernames I have gone through since YouTube used to have a 2 strikes and you're out copyright infringement policy ... they seem to have gotten a little more tolerant lately). There were two songs left off of it. One was "URAQT", which is pretty much the same version that is on Arular, even though is says "Diplo Mix" after it. The other song is "Bingo", which has a different background on PFT (the background is a Jay-Z song). I will do a video for "Bingo" later, and I am sure it will be pretty much the same as this URAQT video, just tweaked a little.
Here is the video for URAQT, which I think came out better than some of my other videos ...
update ... and here is the last video ...
M.I.A. posted some photos on her MySpace blog of her and Oprah at the TIME 100 celebration. Her boyfriend, Benjamin Bronfman (aka Ben Brewer), was at the party with her.
M.I.A. was nominated for a BET Best New Artist award. M.I.A. has been around since 2004-2005 so it's kind of weird to have her nominated as a best new artist, but it's still nice.
Here is the link to the nominees.
I read an article on CNET about great ways to track traffic to your website, and my new favorite traffic-tracking site is Histats.com. It's totally free, and it's very easy to navigate. Today the website's Geolocation feature told me that people from the U.S., UK, Colombia, Mexico, Australia, and Slovenia are visiting this VOX blog. I think that is awesome. I've always loved the idea of somehow communicating with people around the world, even though I don't exactly have the money to travel around the world right now. It makes me feel a little bit more international. You can place the counter in the lower right part of the page that has the options "Edit" and "Hide".
Xmarks (formerly "Foxmarks) is a tool that you can add on to Mozilla's Firefox browser that stores all of your bookmarks. It will prompt you to "sync" everytime you add a new bookmark. I love this tool because I can go to any computer, download the Xmarks tool and have access to all of my bookmarks.
Allyson on America's Next Top Model did not win tonight. She was beaten by Teyona. Both of them were very good, but I thought Allyson had such a unique look that would look great for high fashion photos. I hope she gets a good modeling contract anyway so she can travel the world and hone her craft.
I kind of already posted this, but I wanted to post it again with a new video for it. Here is a link to a good torrent for remixes of M.I.A. songs and rare M.I.A. songs that have never been officially released ...

Here is a video for the torrent (Bit Torrent is an excellent program to use to download this torrent) ...

I decided to make a torrent file that would include tons of M.I.A. remixes and songs that have never been officially released. You can download the file here, or you can go the page at Mininova that describes the torrent file. A good torrent program is Bit Torrent, if you need something to open the torrent with.
In other news, here is a funny scene from Gregg Araki's strange 1992 movie, The Living End. A friend of mine and I still make fun of this scene because it is so random ...
I was reading an article on CNET about some underwater photos that were submitted for a University of Miami photo contest, and I thought this one from Vickie Coker of Austin, TX, was the coolest one ...
I have a bunch of CDs sitting in my car's console that do not have any sort of label on them. They are CDs I have burned in the past year or father back, and it is fun to throw them in the CD player sometimes to discover what's on them and be reminded of a forgotten tune.
Today I put in a CD that had Diplo and Hot Chip on it, among other songs.
Here is a song I like by Diplo (from his album, Florida) called "Sarah" ...
Here is another song I discoverd by Hot Chip called "Playboy" (from their album, Coming On Strong) ...
I think Diplo got his name from the dinosaur, Diplodocus, because on his song, "Florida", you hear a woman say, "Hello, what's your name?", and the reply is "Diplodocus" ...
Here is the original image ...
M.I.A. contributed some vocals to this song, "O ... Saya", from the movie, Slumdog Millionaire (see how much money it has made so far here), which is still not showing in Austin. I am going to see it as soon as it shows up in a theater here. It shouldn't be too long.
This "O ... Saya" song is wonderful. I know it has a lot of elements of traditional and current Indian music in it, but it also reminds me of the music Vangelis did for "Blade Runner". M.I.A.'s voice goes perfectly with it. It kind of makes me think of M.I.A.'s music from the future or something weird like that.
Here is the song on YouTube ...
You can buy the song on iTunes if you like. I hope it will be available on Amazon's MP3 Downloads section soon because I hate buying stuff from iTunes.
In other news, the mixtape, "Top Ranking", by Diplo and Santogold just keeps getting better.
The album is a continuous mix so I am going to post 2 songs below, but you need to think of them as one song since there is no pause between them on the album.
Also, here is a video by Radicarl, a German DJ who does a lot of cool music and remixes. This is his remix of Paper Planes ...

A friend of mine and I went out last night for dinner for my birthday and for election night. We were excited that Barack Obama would actually win the presidency. I was still very cautious. I am glad he won. I am glad the Democrats have the majority in the House and Senate. However, they may not get their 60-seat filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, but they still did well. I am glad a lot of red states went to Obama.
Austin, TX and Travis County always go to Democrats, and it definitely went easily to Obama this time around. However, it kills me that Texas, as a state, has to be so backwards and go for McCain. If you look at an electoral map, you will see that the large urban areas (where most of the people live) all went to Obama.
Prop 8, which bans homosexual marriages, will probably get passed in California if the current results are correct. That is disappointing, but I guess that will just take time for people to get over their hangups about same-sex couples. I still believe that time heals all wounds, but that's not true if you run out of time.
The positive perspectives from around the world about Obama as the new president are very nice. I like the idea that the rest of the world may like America again. I always think globally. If I had enough money, I would live in a different country every month.
In other news, there is a lot of good music out there right now. Here is a mixtape that became available on the M.I.A. Fans message board today (http://miafans.co.uk) ...
http://fairtilizer.com/radioclit/the_very_best.zip
The music definitely has a "world music" sound to it. Esau Mwamwaya is featured heavily on the mixtape. He has done his own versions of "Paper Planes" and "Get It Up". I have posted his songs on here before. M.I.A. also put some vocals on a demo of his song, "Rain Dance". I think I have all of that right. The mixtape is also available on MySpace here ...
I think Radioclit is the main force behind the mixtape.
M.I.A. has a new song (download it) and video with Blaqstarr that is very good. It is called S.U.S. (Way Down The Hole) ...
As you can see the song has appeared under many different names. "Save Ur Soul" is probably the correct name.
One of the clubs/bars my friend and I went to last night was RAIN on 4th, and I was very happy that they played the song and video of M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes". Everyone seemed to really like the song, and they all seemed to know the lyrics to it already, which they should since it has been out forever now. I just wish they would play songs like "Bamboo Banga". That would be more fun for a club.
The restaurant we went to was a great Italian restaurant called Primizie Osteria. It is located on East 11th St. in Austin, and it is probably one of those restaurants that is not getting as much business as it should because people do not know about it. I am probably going to do a Yelp review for it, but it already has a ton of positive Yelp reviews. Here is the website for it ...

I got this Rigatoni with Italian Sausage dish that was really good, but I think the best part of the meal was the torta di limon dessert ...
I think that is the correct picture. The shiny structure sticking out of the dessert is sugar that you can eat.
My favorite mixtape to listen to right now is "Top Ranking" from Diplo and Santogold. I have posted some of the songs from the mixtape here already. You can download the entire mixtape by doing a Google search for it. Here are two of my favorite songs from the mixtape ...
I have been listening to this song a lot lately in my car. The title is "Dutty Six Pack". It sounds very reggae to me. I don't know who sings it, and I have a feeling it is an old reggae song that has just been updated a little for this mixtape, "Top Rated", but I could be wrong. Anyone know who sings this, and if there is a longer version?
Here is the song ...
Edit ... I think this is Cutty Ranks. I did a Google Search on "Dutty Six Pack", and all the links said Cutty Ranks so that makes sense. I like the song "Limb by Limb" by Cutty Ranks, too, but I have read that there are a lot of anti-gay lyrics in this kind of music. I don't know how accurate or how offended I should be by that, but I still like the song.
