I decided to make a YouTube video for an old remix of Tori Amos' "Horses" by a DJ named Gavo aka Gavin Bradley.

I always thought this was one of the best remixes of a Tori Amos song (the Armand van Helden remix of Professional Widow is probably the best remix ever).
You download Gavo's remix of Horses here.
I have posted this song before, but I decided to make a YouTube video for it (especially since I need to use remixes and live versions of songs to avoid YouTube's strict copyright rules). iieee is my favorite song from Tori Amos' From The Choirgirl Hotel album, and it is also one of my favorite songs ever. I have enjoyed this "beginner's lounge mix" remix, which I guess was done by a fan many moons ago and released onto the internet.
I tried to do a video for Tori Amos's obscure song "Hungarian Wedding Song". I used photos of an British import CD single of Caught A Lite Sneeze. I edited the photos and created a rubik's cube like video effect (that I used above, too) using this basic video editor I have. Well, YouTube slapped a copyright violation on the video right away due to the music. I changed the audio to a song that YouTube offered, and here is the result ...
Here is the only video of Tori's "Hungarian Wedding Song" performed by someone on YouTube (you can get away with that!) ...
Here is the actual song by Tori Amos ...
Here is a very low quality version of what the video would have looked like. I am not too crazy about the video now, but it did teach me the "overlay" effect, where you can lay one video on top of another and choose how transparent the video is. I put the Tori video on top of inverted scenes from George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". I think the effect is kind of cool, but I wish you could make out the movie scenes more. I thought the movie fit in nicely with the lyrics "all the dead are coming" from the song. I repeated the song over and over again to make the video long so it gets pretty repetitive. I tried to incorporate sound effects during the song to make it sound more sinister.

Google increased the maximum size of a Gmail email attachment. Here is a story about it from Austin Business Journal ...

You may ask "why does this matter?", but being able to send a larger file with Gmail is great. I recently had a PowerPoint project that was a little over 25MB in size. I had to put in on a USB drive, but it would have been nice to simply email to myself for storage and be able to download it to my work PC when it was time to do a presentation. Google is also increasing the maximum size of a video on YouTube from 1 GB to 2 GB, which means we should see some much higher quality videos soon. This is my favorite part of the article ...
The company warns, however, that users' attachments may bounce off of other email systems which have smaller attachment limits. This is apparently seen by the company as an entry to getting more Gmail users as it includes this suggestion on its Gmail help page: "If your attachment bounces, you should invite them to Gmail."
That statement is funny to me because I have sent tons of M.I.A. songs by email to people using Gmail, and it was always easier to email the attachments to people with Gmail accounts. The email would get refused by Hotmail and Yahoo! because the file sizes were too large. I don't know why everyone doesn't just wake up and start using Gmail. Some people still use aol.com email addresses. Yikes!

In other news, "Slumdog Millionaire" did really well at the Oscars. The film was nominated for 10 awards, and it won 8 of them. It won for best song and best score, which is great for A R Rahman. M.I.A.'s song with Rahman, called "O ... Saya" did not win, but the very catchy song, "Jai Ho", from the end of the movie did win. However, M.I.A. did win in a way because her record label, NEET, is behind the distribution of the soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire so the better the soundtrack does, the more success for her record label. Her next project with her record label will be to release Rye Rye's first album.
I am amazed at how well Slumdog Millioniare is doing at the box office. It is on its way to making over $100 million domestically, and it has already made around $160 million overall (over $60 million internationally). The movie only cost $15 million to make so it is truly a success.

This is an old remix of an old song, "Ray of Light", by Madonna. I listened to this Ray of Light remix CD-single as I drove home from the DFW area back to Austin today. The traffic was extremely annoying, but music can make everything better.
I got to see "Slumdog Millionaire" with my friend, Cristen, on Christmas night at the Magnolia theater in Dallas. The movie was great, and I like the soundtrack even more now. I loved the child actors in the movie. They were all very talented. The other actors were good, too, of course. I was happy to see the theater packed. I think this movie will just keep doing better and better business as more people hear of it, and I know it will win some more awards soon.
If you are wanting to watch a movie with the Netflix movie viewer, and you are using the Firefox 3 browser, the movie viewer will not work in the browser since it only works with Internet Explorer. However, you can install the IE tab add-on into Firefox 3, right-click on the movie's link, and choose the option, "open with IE tab", or something like that. Then, it will work perfectly and you will still be using Firefox 3 instead of Internet Explorer (the worst browser ever!).

Here are two funny YouTube videos that feature Joan Rivers . . .
Cliff Richard is also in the above video.
Here is a video of Joan Rivers on the British version of "The View". She talks some smack about Russell Crowe, and she doesn't realize that they don't have a 5-second delay for the purpose of censorship on the show ...
I hate censorship and love the Freedom of Speech so I think it is great that Joan Rivers did this. Russell Crowe probably is an asshole. I hate his movies.
Here are two new (to me) M.I.A. remixes by Instinct (MySpace for Instinct) ...
The two photos of M.I.A. were taken by Mike Schreiber (and altered by me, of course).
There is a remix of M.I.A.'s "XR2" by Blaqstarr that I was able to download from the M.I.A. Fans message board. The picture that I put with the song is from a party at the Museum of Modern Art in New York called the "Party in the Garden", I think. There is a better picture of M.I.A. at the same party at People's website. I got the picture for the song from Bonafide-Hustler.com.
Here is the photo from People's website that I like, but I wish it was really large ...
You can download the song here if you like.
Mozilla wants 1 million downloads or more on June 17th when the official version of Firefox 3 will be released. I have been using the "release candidate" of Firefox 3 (I don't know what "release candidate" means, but I think that is the right phrase ... kind of like "beta" or "testing version"), and I really love it. It is definitely the fastest browser I have ever used. I hate, hate, hate Internet Explorer, but I have always loved the Firefox browsers. I try to tell all of my friends, co-workers, relatives, and even members at my credit union to use Firefox because it is safer (especially when combined with Google Toolbar), and it is faster and more customizable (I don't think that's a word).
Here is a video about the release of Mozilla's Firefox 3 on Tuesday, June 17th ...
In case you don't know where to go to download Firefox, the website is right here!
You can also download the latest "release candidate" of Firefox 3 before the real, official version comes out on Tuesday.
Another song they have been playing lately at the bar I go to is Kylie Minogue's "In My Arms". When I first got the import of "X" a long, long time ago, I did not think much of this song, except for the fact that it had a really cool opening. However, after hearing the song in the club setting, it really has invaded my mind. The video is pretty cool, and I think they play some cool remix at the bar that makes it even better. Here is the song, along with some remixes and videos.
A nice person emailed me this song. I had never heard it before, but a friend of mine would always tell me about it because she liked it. It's not bad. I have posted about it before.

In other news aka M.I.A. news, Diplo posted two other versions of the song he did with M.I.A., "Paper Planes", for the album, Kala. You can listen to the songs, download them, and read about them at his Mad Decent blog here.
Here they are, too, just in case ...

According to M.I.A.'s MySpace bulletin, on November 3rd she will be in Borders bookstore near Westgate in Austin, TX around 4pm to sign stuff I guess. I am going to buy another copy of Kala for her to sign. Woohoo! She will be performing at Hogg Auditorium on UT campus later that day/night. I hope everything goes according to schedule. This will all be happening on my birthday, which is pretty cool.
Here is a remix of "Boyz" that I downloaded a while back, but I guess I never paid attention to it. It's not bad.
