Also, here is a video by Radicarl, a German DJ who does a lot of cool music and remixes. This is his remix of Paper Planes ...

This will be good exposure for M.I.A. so people will buy Kala and get to hear all of the other cool songs on the album (especially 20$).
Vote today!

This video is not that funny, but it's interesting that this guy wanted to spend so much time doing a spoof of her "Paper Planes" video ...
Also, I am making a YouTube playlist for Piracy Funds Terrorism, vol. 1. I have only have 6 of the 21 songs on it right now, but I will keep adding to it.
This is pretty significant. M.I.A.'s single, "Paper Planes", has reached #5 in Billboard's Hot 100 chart, which takes into account sales, radio airplay, downloads, etc., of singles. The song has been steadily rising (due to the "Pineapple Express" trailer, among many other reasons), but what is amazing is that the album, "Kala", which the song is on has been out for almost a year.
"Kala" has re-entered the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, which is even more impressive in my opinion. I am glad people are buying the album, too. "Paper Planes" is a great song, but people should listen to "Bamboo Banga" and "20 Dollar", too.
If you want to continue the rise of the album and the song, you can buy Kala at the following links ...
Buy Kala on Amazon's MP3 Downloads site (very easy, better quality and cheaper than iTunes)
Buy Kala on iTunes
Buy Paper Planes on Amazon's MP3 Downloads site
Buy Bamboo Banga on Amazon's MP3 Downloads site
Buy 20 Dollar on Amazon's MP3 Downloads site
Here are the three songs, again, if you want to listen to them ...
Here is the playlist (it is short right now, and I am only including games that I actually played ... I only solved a handful of them) ...
Here is another playlist I am going to be working on to provide an easy way to see all of M.I.A.'s videos ...
Another item I have been reading about is Yahoo!'s new "Fire Eagle" (Firefox's cousin?), which allows advertisers to know where you are. It kind of reminds me of the advertising in "Minority Report" ...
It sounds a little scary and Big Brother-ish, but I think something really cool will come out of it, and I think Google will take it and make it into something a lot better. I just want to be able to play with it on my Blackberry Pearl 8110. ;)
On iTunes, M.I.A.'s single, "Paper Planes", continues to move up the chart. It is at #11 right now, and as more and more people realize how cool M.I.A.'s music is, the song should continue to rise (it took you long enough, world!).
Anyway, here is an image of the chart ...
I wouldn't purchase the song on iTunes. I would buy it on Amazon.com's MP3 Downloads site because it will be DRM-free (meaning you can play it on any device as much as you want, and you can burn into onto as many CDs as you want or share it with as many friends as you want because it doesn't have that annoying digital rights management format)

It takes a while for all the international money to be calculated so the worldwide total could be a lot higher right now.
The rankings on the bottom-right part of the webpage are very interesting, too. If you like BoxOfficeMojo.com, you should probably register on the site with your email address, but don't try out the trial version, and make sure you go into email preferences and turn off all of the subscriptions. I go to the site almost everyday because I love to see how well and badly movies do (I'm talking about you, Love Guru!).
P.S. Make sure you buy M.I.A.'s single, "Paper Planes", so that awful song by Katy Perry will not be #1 anymore. That song is so bland! I guess it could be a lot worse, but she her management/producers are trying way too hard to make her look like the hip, bad girl. The song, "I Kissed A Girl", has already been done by Jill Sobule a long, long time ago. I mean, the new one has a nice beat to it, but I don't think Katy Perry sings that well. If you want an edgy song by a better female singer, try out someone like Goldfrapp.
Those are lyrics from one of my favorite songs at the moment, "Embrace" by Ladyhawke ... OK, I guess it is by PNAU (featuring Ladyhawke). It's just as great as "Paris is Burning" (maybe even better). I love the whole 80s vibe. It seems like it should be played at the end of BMX Bandits (Nicole Kidman movie).
Here is the mix I like ...
Here is a remix of "Embrace" ...
Here is another song by Ladyhawke called "Back of the Van" ...
PNAU have a website here, and if you go here, you can play their video game.
In other news, I am amazed at what an impact the trailer for "Watchmen" had on the song "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by Smashing Pumpkins. The song jumped to the top of the charts on iTunes and Amazon's MP3 section. It's probably because everyone who saw "The Dark Knight" loved the trailer of "Watchmen" right before it. The song and the trailer went together perfectly. I love how dark the song sounds. A co-worker of mine told me how there are various versions of this song. Here is a more guitar version called "The End is the Beginning is the End" ...
That same co-worker told me I needed to download the song, "Snail", by Smashing Pumpkins. Here it is, but it doesn't really grab me ...
Another song that seems to be gaining in popularity on the download charts (iTunes and Amazon, for example) is M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes". It probably doesn't hurt that it is featured in the trailer for "Pineapple Express" (after about a minute).
M.I.A.'s birthday was July 17th (I think that is right), and someone from the M.I.A. Fans message board made two YouTube videos where they got people to wish her a happy birthday and/or dance to her songs. Here are the videos ...
Santogold (aka Santi White) is a really cool group that has ties to Spank Rock, M.I.A., Switch, and lots of other cool artists/DJs, etc. I do not believe they have an official album you can buy so I can going to do some music spreading here.
Anyway, they put out a video for their song, L.E.S. Artistes ...
I don't know what message the video is trying to convey (probably something about expressing yourself even if it gets you in trouble), but it's very colorful.
My favorite pop culture moment of Santogold is when one of my favorite songs of theirs, "Creator", was used in the beginning of the second part of a two-part episode of "Grey's Anatomy". It's the scene where Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo are dancing around in the bedroom to some music. I knew about Santogold long before this episode aired so it was cool to see that the music director of Grey's Anatomy had good taste. I think the show, "Entourage", has played Santogold, and M.I.A. has also been featured in episodes of that show so that is tres cool.
Here is a clip of "Creator" playing in the background of Grey's Anatomy (season 4, episode 10, part 2 of "Crash Into Me") ...
Here it is again just in case the above one gets deleted ...
and here is the song in its entirety (I have actually uploaded this song before) ...
Santogold - Creator
Here are some remixes of M.I.A. songs that I recently added to my iTunes library ...
M.I.A. vs. Beatie Boys and Nas ... Funny Bizniz (M.I.A.'s song in this mash-up is "Paper Planes") ... this song was made by Abrahammer, I think.
I got the above remix from the M.I.A. Fans Message Board (where I get almost all of my M.I.A. remixes nowadays).
M.I.A. vs. Dan Deacon - "Jimmy ... Jimmy Joe Rochoe" ( a remix by DJ STV SLV that came from The Hood Internet)
Actually, I think a lot of these remixes came from The Hood Internet.
M.I.A. vs. New Order - Blue M.I.A. Day (remixed by ABX)
I think the background sound of M.I.A.'s "20 Dollar" (which this is a remix of) is actually a distorted sample taken from New Order's "Blue Monday" (which this is also a remix of).
M.I.A. - Paper Planes (Holy Fuck Remix)
Buraka Son Sistema featuring M.I.A. - Sound of Kuduro
M.I.A. doesn't have too many lines in the song above, but the ones she has are cool. Here is more information on Buraka Son Sistema (who did the fast remix of Bird Flu, I think, and works a lot with Diplo and the Mad Decent blog).
Here is the video that goes with this song ...
This "Sound of Kuduro" song makes me think of a lot of the Baile Funk sound on "Piracy Funds Terrorism, volume one" bootleg album that Diplo and M.I.A. worked on.
I love how all of these artists kind of know each other and work together, or they work with friends of friends. It all seems very casual, but they manage to put out really cool stuff together.
I saw Simian Mobile Disco at Waterloo Park in Austin last night. They performed on a tiny stage, but they had a really cool light show and the crowd seemed to really like them. I went to see them because I have a friend who loves them and their songs, "Hustler" and "I Believe". I don't know too much about them, but they played one song with the lyrics "Fantastic into romantic, romantic into fantastic" (which I thought was saying, "fantastic is the romantic, romantic is the fantastic"). I discovered by using the power of the internet that the song is a remix of The Go! Team's "Ladyflash" by Simian Mobile Disco. Here is the song ...
The Go! Team - Ladyflash (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)
Thanks to the M.I.A. Fans message board for these. One is by DJ Eli, and one is by DFA.
M.I.A. - Bamboo Babger (DJ Eli Remix) ... meh!
M.I.A. - Paper Planes (DFA Remix) ... yay!
Here is M.I.A.'s video for Paper Planes ...
Edit ... OK, I had another version of the video above before that did not sound like the album version of the song, Paper Planes. However, I found the official version of the video on YouTube, and that is what you see above now. It's good.
Here is just the song, Paper Planes ...
In other news Tori Amos got royally pissed off at two "fans" that were sitting in the front row at her concert. The two annoying people were leaving their seats to wander off and come back as they please, talking on their cell phones, taking pictures of themselves, etc. I don't know if all of that is correct, but they were doing something to annoy Tori and the people around them. When Tori kicked them out, everyone around them started applauding. It's a great scene, and it happens around 2:28 in this video ...
This post was severely edited by me. Ha! ;)
